Downloading eBooks to Android Devices

Reading eBooks on Android Devices

Most of our eBooks can be downloaded for offline reading on your Android device. All of our eBook platform providers recommend using the Bluefire Reader app to read their downloaded eBooks.

Depending on the screen size of your Android device, eBooks can also be read online within the internet browser on your device.

Important Things to Know:

Bluefire Reader, the recommended reading app for downloaded eBooks, allows you to take notes and export them* when you are done with the eBook.

*Make sure to export your annotations before the checkout period expires.*

Before you attempt to download an eBook, do the following:

On your computer:

  1. Create an Adobe ID account (free)
  2. Download Adobe Digital Editions (free) and authorize with your Adobe ID

On your Android device

  1. Download the Bluefire Reading app (free - available via Google Play) and authorize with your Adobe ID

EBSCO eBooks - what's best for reading on Android devices?

EBSCO ebooks can be viewed online within an internet browser or downloaded for offline reading in the Bluefire Reading app*, or your reading app of choice

First Steps: Checking out and Downloading an EBSCO eBook to your Android device

Before you attempt to download an eBook, do the following:

  1. Create an Adobe ID account (free)
  2. Download either:
  3. Authorize your reading app with your Adobe ID
  4. Create a My EBSCOhost account (free)

When you have located an eBook you want to download, click the Download This eBook (Offline) link

You will be prompted to Sign to your My EBSCOhost account.

If you have not already created a My EBSCOhost account, you can select Create a new Account.  Once you have created an account, you can continue the process of checking out the eBook.

Once you login:

  • pick a Checkout Period (default is 2 days)
  • click the Checkout & Download button.

 

The eBook should immediately open in the Bluefire Reader app, or your reading app of choice.

First Steps: Downloading an EBL eBook to your Android device

Before you attempt to download an eBook, do the following:

  1. Create an Adobe ID account (free)
  2. Download either:
  3. Authorize your reading app with your Adobe ID

Downloading an EBL eBook to your Android device

Click the Read Online button beneath the book cover image.

Click the Download tab, located to the left of the reading pane.

  1. Select the Checkout period (up to 7 days)
  2. Select the format
    • Tip: Select ePub when available - this format is designed for easy reading on mobile devices
  3. Click the Download button

The eBook should immediately open in the Bluefire Reader app, or your reading app of choice.
