Downloading eBooks to eReaders

Downloading EBSCO eBooks to eReaders

Most EBSCO eBooks can be downloaded to any eReader that supports Adobe eBook DRM. 

A complete list of Adobe eBook DRM compatible devices and apps is available here.

Before you attempt to download an EBSCO eBook, do the following:

On your computer:

  1. Create an Adobe ID account (free)
  2. Download Adobe Digital Editions (free)
    • Authorize with your Adobe ID
  3. Create a My EBSCOhost account (free)
    • Required in order to checkout and download eBooks from EBSCOhost

On your eReader:

  1. Authorize your eReader with your Adobe ID:
    • Connect your eReader to your computer
    • Launch Adobe Digital Editions
    • Adobe Digital Editions will automatically prompt you to authorize your eReader with your Adobe ID

Checking out and Downloading an EBSCO eBook on your computer

When you have located an eBook you want to download, click the Download This eBook (Offline) link

You will be prompted to Sign to your My EBSCOhost account.

If you have not already created a My EBSCOhost account, you can select Create a new Account.  Once you have created an account, you can continue the process of checking out the eBook.

Once you login:

  • pick a Checkout Period (default is 2 days)
  • click the Checkout & Download button.

You will be prompted to open the eBook in Adobe Digital Editions

*Once the eBook is successfully loaded, close Adobe Digital Editions before going to the next step.


Transferring eBook to your eReader

Connect your eReader to your computer.

  • You must do this first, otherwise Adobe Digital Editions will not "see" your eReader

Open Adobe Digital Editions.

Your eReader will appear under Bookshelves in the left hand column

Drag and drop the eBook onto the image of your eReader.

Wait until the eBook has been successfully transferred before disconnecting your eReader.

Downloading EBL eBooks to eReaders

Most EBL eBooks can be downloaded to any eReader that supports Adobe eBook DRM.

Before you attempt to download an EBL eBook, do the following:

On your computer:

  1. Create an Adobe ID account (free)
  2. Download Adobe Digital Editions (free)
    • ​Authorize with your Adobe ID

On your eReader:

  1. Authorize your eReader with your Adobe ID:
    • Connect your eReader to your computer
    • Launch Adobe Digital Editions
    • Adobe Digital Editions will automatically prompt you to authorize your eReader with your Adobe ID

Downloading an EBL eBook

Click the Read Online button, located beneath the book cover image

Click the Download tab, located to the left of the reading pane

  1. Select the Checkout period (up to 7 days)
  2. Select the format
    • Tip: Select ePub when available - this format is designed for easy reading on mobile devices
  3. Click the Download button

 

You will be prompted to open the eBook in Adobe Digital Editions

*Once the eBook is successfully loaded, close Adobe Digital Editions before going to the next step.
