eBooks on Desktop Computers

Reading eBooks on your Desktop Computer

All of our eBooks can be viewed online from any computer with an internet connection.  Most eBooks can be downloaded for offline reading on your desktop computer.  You must have Adobe Digital Editions installed before you can read a downloaded eBook on your desktop computer.

Important Things to Know:

Adobe Digital Editions provides very rudimentary support for annotations in eBooks.  There is no way to export any notes, highlights, or bookmarks you have added to eBooks in Adobe Digital Editions.  Once the checkout period on an eBook expires, annotations will disappear.

If you wish to keep track of your annotations, it would be better to read the eBook online within the hosting platform.  All of our eBook platform providers allow you to take notes within their ebooks and will store your annotations on their platforms if you have an account with them.

Before you attempt to download an eBook to your desktop computer, do the following:

  1. Create an Adobe ID account (free)
  2. Download Adobe Digital Editions (free) and authorize with your Adobe ID

Downloading an EBSCOhost eBook to your Desktop Computer

You must have a MyEBSCOhost account before you can download an eBook.

When you have located an eBook you wish to download, look for the Download This eBook (Offline) link:

You will be prompted to Sign in to your MyEBSCOhost account:

Once you login, select a Checkout Period and click the Checkout & Download button:

The eBook will download as a "URLLink.ascm" file.  Depending on the settings of your computer, you will either be automatically prompted to open the file in Adobe Digital Editions, or will need to locate the downloaded file and double-click to open in your Adobe Digital Editions.

Remember: while Adobe Digital Editions allows you to take notes within an eBook, it does not permanently store your notes.  Once the checkout period for an eBook has expired, any notes you took within Adobe Digital Editions will disappear.
