Reviews of Literary Works
Many library databases will contain citations for or even complete book reviews.
- Literature Resources from Gale
Search for your author's name, then click the "Book Reviews" link in the left-hand column. - New York Times Historical (1851 - 2005) Add AND AT(review) to your search to retrieve only review articles.
- Children's Literature Comprehensive Database (CLCD) A green dot next to a search result indicates that a review is available.
- Academic Search Premier Tip! Click "Publication Type" then click "Review" in the left-hand bar to limit your search results to reviews only.
- Amazon.com Amazon has reviews for just about every book, from sources such as Booklist, Publishers' Weekly, and Library Journal. These brief reviews might be enough to get you started.
Reviews of Criticism and Other Works
The resources below may not contain reviews of literary works themselves but contain reviews along with critical articles on literary topics. A review of a collection of critical essays may help you decide whether to request that book from Interlibrary Loan, if the library does not own a copy.
- Choice Reviews Online The premier source for reviews of academic books and other materials of interest to those in higher education.
- JSTOR A database of scholarly journals, the most recent few years of which will not be available here.
- Project Muse Online editions of scholarly journals.
