Library Search

To use the ibrary Search:

Go to the library home page at https://libguides.eku.edu/library

Click on Advanced Search.

Type in your search terms: try slave narratives AND kentucky, for example. Leave the pull-down menu on the right at Select a Field (keyword search).

Here's where you will need to use your critical thinking skills - as you examine the results ask yourself if the item is a primary source - in other words does it reflect firsthand knowledge of the event (as in autobiographies). If the event reflects second-hand knowledge of the event, and interpretation, then that is a secondary source and not primary.

Library Search by Author

If you are looking for a particular book by a certain author, such as an autobiography, the process is similar:

Go to the library home page at https://libguides.eku.edu/library

Click on Advanced Search.

Type in the book title and/or author in separate blocks - don't forget to change the pull-down menu on the right to Title and/or author.

You may find there are better results if you type the author name with last name first, a comma, and then the first name or initials, for example "evers, medgar" or "chisholm, shirley"
