Finding Sources for Music Research

After searching Oxford Music Online, the next best places to find music articles are RILM Abstracts of Music Literature and Music Index Online.

Search the library’s catalog for both print and online books. For example, if you’re interested in Shakespeare’s impact on current musical trends, using Shakespeare and music as combined subject search terms will give you the e-book Shakespeare and Popular Music.

If you want to find the lyrics to a song related to Shakespeare, or maybe find sheet music with an interesting, ornate cover page to include in your paper, try the sheet music collection called Petrucci Music Library or use the EDS Scores search below to search the Libraries' catalog of materials.

EDS Music Scores Search:

Several instrumental pieces and operas have been written based on a Shakespeare play. Some of these can be watched in Classical Music in Video and Opera in Video. For example, the composer Giuseppe Verdi turned Othello into an opera (respelled Otello), and can be found in the opera collection.
