Changes to Operations

  • The John Grant Crabbe Main Library building is open 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Monday through Thursday excepting official University holidays. We will be closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday in accordance with the revised EKU Summer Schedule. Please visit our library hours for a full listing of closings.
  • Branches are closed during this time.
  • Visitors are limited to just EKU students, faculty and staff. Only the main entrance (Little Entrance) is open.
  • Visitors will scan their official EKU ID -- their Colonel Card -- when entering the library building.
  • All persons in the library building must wear a mask.
  • We ask that people not congregate together and wipe down surfaces they used when they leave.

Borrowing Print and Physical Materials from EKU Libraries

  • The physical stacks are closed to patron browsing through Fall 2020.
  • For access to physical materials, please use the library's main search and your Library Express account to request print books for check-out. You can easily request a book for checking out by clicking on the "Request It" link attached to a book's record
    • Need Help? Please take a minute to view the below linked FAQs and how-to videos on how to request print materials through Library Express.

  • Checking out Print Books: Richmond Campus based Faculty, Staff, and Students
  • Checking out Print Books: Regional Campus and Online Only Faculty, Staff, and Students
  • Different options are available to obtain the books you have checked out:
    • On-campus patrons will pick up their books from a cart in the Main Library
    • Branch libraries remain closed and are currently not an option for pick-up
    • Richmond campus faculty and staff may request that their items be mailed to their campus mailing address
    • Regional campus and online-only students, faculty and staff may have their items mailed to their home address. This process will take longer than in previous semesters due to COVID-19 precautions, so please allow extra time for arrival of materials.
  • Until further notice, we will no longer borrow textbooks from other libraries or lend physical materials to other libraries.
  • EKU Libraries will prioritize the purchase of books in eBook format that support the curricula. Patrons are encouraged to use their local public libraries for popular and fiction reading needs.

Returning Books

  • If you are local or making a trip to Richmond for another reason, you can return library books now by dropping them off at one of the two book drops. Book drops are located on the porch of the main entrance and University Drive in front of the ravine (corner of the Library and Keen Johnson). Books will not be processed for at least 48 hours after their return based on current best known practices related to the COVID-19 virus. (This FAQ has photos showing where the book drops are located.)
  • But please don't make a trip to Richmond solely to return any library books. You are welcome to mail books to return them, but please remember that as long as the books are returned when we all eventually return to campus in the fall, there will be no late or overdue fees for library books.
    • If you would like to return library books via mail, the address is:

EKU Libraries

103 Libraries Complex

521 Lancaster Avenue

Richmond, KY  40475

  • If you won't be returning to the EKU campus in the fall, would like to renew your books over the phone, have a library laptop, or have any other questions, please call us at 859-622-1790.

Library Express, Document Delivery and Interlibrary Loan

  • Library Express, our Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery service, will limit services to digital items only. We will not borrow physical items from other libraries or lend out physical items to other libraries.
  • Until further notice, we will no longer borrow textbooks from other libraries.
  • Please contact Library Express at if you have any specific questions.
