COVID-19 Library Express Policies and Changes

Library Express and Interlibrary Loan

  • Library Express, our Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery service, will have modified services for the fall semester.
  • The stacks are closed to patron browsing through Fall 2020. A request will need to be placed using your Library Express account to checkout physical and print items.

  • Requests for items we do not own will be reviewed. EKU Libraries will prioritize the purchase of books in eBook format that support the curricula. Patrons are encouraged to use their local public library for popular and fiction reading needs.
  • Until further notice, we will no longer borrow textbooks from other libraries.
  • Textbooks currently on Course Reserve in the Main Library will be filled with a two-week loan period, with some exceptions. Reserve items requested from the Music or Business libraries are subject to review.


Pickup/Delivery Options

  • On-campus patrons may pick up books from the self-service shelves in the Main Library lobby.
  • Branch libraries remain closed through the Fall 2020 semester and are currently not an option for pick-up.
  • Richmond campus faculty and staff my request that their items be mailed to their campus mailing address.
  • Regional campus and online-only students, faculty and staff may have their items mailed to their home address. This process will take longer than in previous semesters due to COVID-19 precautions, so please allow extra time for arrival.
  • Are you working from home or taking online-only classes through the Fall semester and not coming to Richmond campus? Library Express will mail materials to home addresses for all patrons, when requested, for Fall 2020 only.



  • We are now accepting returns!
  • If you are local and currently have physical items from Library Express that are past due, please return those items as soon as you can using either of our drop box locations. One is located outside the library's main entrance to the right of the doors. The other is on University Drive to the left near the Ravine. (This FAQ has photos showing where the book drops are located.)
  • Books will not be processed for at least 4 days after their return based on current best known practices related to the COVID-19 virus.
