Open Access Publishing

Guidance in open access scholarly publishing for researchers in all disciplines.

Funding for Open Access Publishing

EKU faculty have several options to help cover the costs of publishing their work in open access journals. Funding opportunities include direct institutional support, waived or discounted fees through publisher agreements, and external grant funding.

EKU Publication Support (Competitive Award)

To promote faculty research and enhance the visibility of EKU scholarship, the University offers competitive funding to cover publishing costs. Awards may be used to pay for:

  • Journal open access publication fees (APCs)
  • Print publication page charges or page buys

Funding is awarded on a rolling basis throughout the year, with applications reviewed by the Publication Support Subcommittee of the EKU Research Advisory Council (ERAC).

Please go to EKU Faculty Publication Support to review additional information.

Library Partnerships / Publisher Agreements - Waived or Discounted APCs

EKU Libraries has negotiated agreements with publishers to cover the costs of open access publishing as part of our subscription and licensing deals. These agreements are designed to provide a way for EKU authors to publish their work open access without having to pay the Article Processing Charges (APCs) out of their own pockets. These agreements allow EKU researchers to make their work freely and openly accessible to a global audience, promoting the dissemination of knowledge and advancing the mission of the University.
