EKU faculty have several options to help cover the costs of publishing their work in open access journals. Funding opportunities include direct institutional support, waived or discounted fees through publisher agreements, and external grant funding.
To promote faculty research and enhance the visibility of EKU scholarship, the University offers competitive funding to cover publishing costs. Awards may be used to pay for:
Funding is awarded on a rolling basis throughout the year, with applications reviewed by the Publication Support Subcommittee of the EKU Research Advisory Council (ERAC).

EKU Libraries has negotiated agreements with publishers to cover the costs of open access publishing as part of our subscription and licensing deals. These agreements are designed to provide a way for EKU authors to publish their work open access without having to pay the Article Processing Charges (APCs) out of their own pockets. These agreements allow EKU researchers to make their work freely and openly accessible to a global audience, promoting the dissemination of knowledge and advancing the mission of the University.
EKU Libraries has partnered with the American Chemical Society (ACS) to give EKU authors the opportunity to publish their research in any ACS journal under a CC BY open access license free of charge.

EKU Libraries has partnered with Oxford University Press (OUP) and Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS) to give EKU authors the opportunity to publish their research in an eligible hybrid journal without paying the usual article processing charge (APC).
