Academic Search Ultimate
Articles from journals, newspapers, and magazines, along with eBooks on nearly every subject area.
MLA International Bibliography
Citation search of articles and books in literature, language/linguistics, folklore, film, literary theory, and dramatic arts.
Library Literature & Information Science
Journal articles, conference proceedings, books, and more in library and information sciences.
Project MUSE
Journal articles in social sciences and humanities.
JSTOR
Journal articles, eBooks, and images primarily in the humanities and social sciences. Includes historical texts and primary sources.

Step 1: To get to the advanced search option, choose to Browse the database.

Step 2: Select the Menu option.

Step 3: Choose Advanced Search from the Menu.

Step 4: Enter search terms. Use a separate box for each concept. Check the box to limit your results to journal articles.

Check the length of the article - peer-reviewed articles are not just a few pages long
Check the article's references - every scholarly article will have an extensive list of sources consulted by the author(s)
Google the journal title - the publisher's website will tell you if it's a peer-reviewed journal
Review the author's (or authors') credentials - their organizational affiliation will be listed either at the beginning or end of the article
