EKU Libraries is excited to announce trials of two innovative 3D anatomy platforms: 3D Atlas of Human Anatomy and Gale Interactive: Human Anatomy. These tools offer interactive and immersive experiences designed to enhance learning and provide a deeper understanding of human anatomy.
Last spring, we reviewed two other platforms, BioDigital Human and Visible Body. While these tools had valuable features, they didn’t fully meet the needs of our academic community. Key challenges included:
User Limits: Access restrictions meant only a limited number of students could use the platforms at a time, which wasn’t ideal for a broad academic audience.
High Costs: The pricing structure made it difficult to justify the investment, especially given our goal of providing equitable access to all students.
We learned a lot from that experience and are now exploring options that may better align with our university’s needs.
3D Atlas of Human Anatomy: This resource provides fully interactive 3D models of human anatomy, allowing users to zoom, dissect, and rotate structures. It is supported by additional references like the Merck Manual and Stedman’s Medical Dictionary, making it a comprehensive tool for study and teaching.
Gale Interactive: Human Anatomy: This platform features interactive 3D models paired with guided lessons aligned to course curricula. It also includes self-assessments and access to trusted reference materials from Gale, offering a well-rounded educational experience.
Both tools are accessible via multiple web browsers and provide flexible options for learning and research.
Your feedback is crucial in helping us determine the best fit for our university. We encourage you to:
