Library Searching and Database Help for Faculty

What is it?

Library Express is a suite of services that provides access to materials that are available at EKU Libraries and from libraries across the United States. This service is free and is ONLY available to current EKU students, faculty, and staff as well as retired faculty and staff.  Library Express manages requests for:

  • Distance & Online Learning
  • Interlibrary Loan
  • Pull & Hold
  • Faculty/Staff purchase recommendations

COVID-19 has altered the way Library Express operates for the Fall 2020 semester.  Please take note of these changes:

What can it do for you?

Library Express is the vehicle by which we deliver materials to you.  Those materials can take different forms (physical book, article PDF, streaming video, etc.) and may be items we currently own; items we could considering purchasing for our collection; or items capable of being borrowed from another library on your behalf.  Depending on your unique circumstances, a request you submit  to Library Express could allow you to:

  • receive an article electronically;
  • have a physical item pulled from our collections and held for you at one of our campus libraries or mailed to your office or home address (if you qualify);
  • place a hold on an item that is checked out;
  • request that an item be purchased and held for you;
  • request that an item be placed on Course Reserve for your class; or
    • NOTE: Due to the risks of sharing physical items without a quarantine period, EKU Libraries and Library Express will not be maintaining course reserve items in the traditional sense for the Fall 2020 semester.  Please consult EKU Libraries' Course Reserves Information guide for the most up-to-date information regarding this service.
  • borrow an item from another library.
    • NOTE: As a safety precaution due to COVID-19, Library Express will not be requesting physical items from other libraries for the Fall 2020 semester.

Creating Your Library Express Account

Before you can begin, you'll need to create a Library Express account.  The process is fast and easy and will only take a few minutes.  Consult EKU Libraries' How do I create my Library Express account? FAQ for detailed instructions.

How do I start using Library Express?

Remember, Library Express can work to get materials into your hands that we currently own, could purchase, or can borrow from another library.  General rule of thumb is to look for links like Find Full Text, Request this item through Library Express, or simply Request It (as demonstrated below) to begin requesting materials.
