Zotero Citation Manager

This guide contains information about installing and using Zotero, a free open source reference management program.

Zotero has updated to APA 7th edition. How can you still use the 6th edition?

Recently, Zotero updated to APA 7th edition. Note that 6th edition is no longer listed as an option from the style list when you try to add a citation in your Word document.

If you are required to still use the 6th edition, you will need to add the 6th edition back to your style list. Here are the steps to do that:

1. Open Zotero. Go to Preferences (under Zotero, Edit, or Tools, depending on Windows or Mac).

2. Choose the "Cite" option. Make sure the "Styles" tab is selected. Choose the "Get Additional Styles" link.

3. In the Style Search box, type in 6th. Choose the top option, American Psychological Association 6th Edition.

The style will automatically be added to your style list. You will now be able to choose it from the drop-down menu when you are ready to add a citation in your Word document.
