How to Use Research Appointments Effectively in Your Class

Research appointments should be a complement to library instruction. If you would like to incorporate research appointments into your course, please consider the following:

  • Require students who missed library instruction to schedule an individual research appointment.
  • Encourage students to self-elect research appointments as needed.
  • Blanket requirements are often ineffective. Instead, consider requiring individual students who are struggling with finding relevant and appropriate sources to schedule a research appointment.

Want to talk more about how research appointments can be incorporated into your courses? Contact your liaison librarian. We are happy to review assignments, syllabi, etc., alongside faculty to develop a library support plan that works for you and your students.
