Borrowing Privileges and User Groups

Information on different user groups at EKU Libraries, borrowing privileges, and information on overdue and lost or damaged books.

Described below are the loan periods and item limits for each EKU Libraries patron user group. 

EKU Current Faculty/Staff/Student

  • Must present valid Colonel One ID to check out library materials 
  • Main Collection and New Books: 6 week loan period, unlimited items, with 2 renewals
  • Popular Books: 2 week loan period, unlimited items, with 2 renewals
  • Periodicals: 2 week loan period, unlimited items, with 2 renewals 
  • DVDs and CDs: 1 week loan period, unlimited items, with 2 renewals
  • Subscription research database access
  • Library Express/interlibrary loan access

EKU Retired Faculty/Staff

  • Must present valid Colonel One ID to check out library materials 
  • Main Collection and New Books: 6 week loan period, unlimited items, with 2 renewals
  • Popular Books: 2 week loan period, unlimited items, with 2 renewals
  • Periodicals: 2 week loan period, unlimited items, with 2 renewals 
  • DVDs: 1 week loan period, unlimited items, with 2 renewals

EKU Alumni

  • Alumni Borrowers are subject to non-university borrower guidelines.
  • Main Collection and New Books: 6 week loan period, unlimited items, with 2 renewals
  • Popular Books: 2 week loan period with 2 renewals
  • DVDs: 1 week loan period with 2 renewals
  • Limited to 5 items at one time
  • Limited subscription research database access. See guidelines for details

EKU Faculty/Staff Spouse/Domestic Partner

  • Spouse and partner borrowers are subject to Faculty/Staff/Domestic Partner Borrowing Guidelines 
  • Main Collection and New Books: 6 week loan period, unlimited items, with 2 renewals
  • Popular Books: 2 week loan period, unlimited items, with 2 renewals
  • DVDs: 1 week loan period, unlimited items, with 2 renewals

Reciprocal Borrowers (FoKAL Borrowers)

Friends of the Libraries

  • Friends of the Libraries are subject to these guidelines. Read more about becoming a Friend! 
  • Main Collection and New Books: 6 week loan period, unlimited items, with 2 renewals
  • Popular Books: 2 week loan period, unlimited items, with 2 renewals
  • Periodicals: 2 week loan period, unlimited items, with 2 renewals 
  • DVDs: 1 week loan period, unlimited items, with 2 renewals

Non-University Borrowers

  • Non-University Borrowers are subject to non-university borrower guidelines
  • Main Collection, Popular, and New Books: 2 week loan period with 2 renewals
  • DVDs: 1 week loan period with 2 renewals
  • Limited to 5 items at one time

Model Students and Minor Children of EKU Employees

  • Model Laboratory School students and children of EKU employees between 8th grade and 18 years of age may obtain EKU library borrowing privileges. The student must complete the EKU Libraries Application for Non-University Students Library Card and a parent or legal guardian of the student must sign the application before borrowing privileges are granted.   • Main Collection, Popular, and New Books: 2 week loan period, unlimited items, with 2 renewals
  • DVDs: 1 week loan period, unlimited items, with 2 renewals
  • Subscription research database access to Model Students

Visiting Scholar

  • Visiting Scholars retain the same privileges as current faculty and staff. All Visiting Scholar privileges must be approved by the Dean of Libraries.
