Victoria Rousey (2017)

2017 Dick Mayo Allen Award Presented

Dean Betina Gardner, Tori Rousey, and Julie George

The 2017 Dick Mayo Allen scholarship was presented to Victoria Rousey on August 20, 2017 during EKU Libraries' Student Employee Training Day.  Rousey, a native of Richmond, KY, will graduate in spring 2018 with a degree in History Teaching.  She works as a student employee in EKU Special Collections and Archives (SCA).

About her experience as a Library student employee, she says, "I have made some friendships that are going to last me way past my college years. [I also love] the opportunities to help people. It's always such an awesome feeling to help a patron find what they are looking for, especially when it happens to be a photo or letter from a relative."

Over her four years in SCA, her favorite project was organizing all of the EKU photographs and making sure the descriptions in SCA's online database matched the photos.  She says, "This was a fun project because I got to see EKU through all of the years. It was very cool to see how much our campus has changed through the years."

After graduation, she plans to begin her teaching career.  In the future, she hopes to come back to EKU to work on a graduate degree.

The Dick Mayo Allen Award is presented each year to honor an outstanding EKU Libraries' student employee.  The Award includes a $500 scholarship and a plaque.
